The Power Path: Tractor PTO to Implement

The tractor's Power Take-Off (PTO) stub shaft protrudes from the rear of the tractor, rotating at either 540 RPM (standard on most tractors under 100HP) or 1000 RPM (larger tractors). A telescoping PTO drive shaft connects this stub to the input shaft of the редуктор ВОМ mounted on the implement.

What the Gearbox Does

The PTO gearbox performs two critical functions simultaneously:

Where It Sits on the Implement

Rotary mowers/slashers: Mounted on top of the mower deck, centred above the blade spindle. The input shaft faces rearward toward the tractor; the output shaft points downward to drive the blade.

Rotary cultivators: Located at the centre-top of the tiller frame, often on a vertical column. Input faces the tractor; output drives the rotor shaft through the tiller body.

Post hole diggers: Positioned at the top of the digger frame, vertically oriented. The PTO shaft enters horizontally; the output shaft exits vertically downward to spin the auger bit.

Safety & Compliance — Australian PTO Guarding Standards

All PTO-driven equipment used in Australia must comply with AS 1121.3 (Tractor PTO guarding) and Safe Work Australia guidelines for rotating machinery.
